About Palestine
The importance of translating this book lies not only in offering solutions and treatments for the Palestinian issue, but also in its analysis of the reality of the conflict within Israeli society and its class struggles; its importance also lies in presenting a comparison between the South African and Palestinian cases, as struggles against imperialism and apartheid systems. Moreover, both Chomsky and Pappe share their experiences inside and outside Israeli society, and the most important transformations that have affected public opinion – particularly American public opinion – in recent years; including academic circles, which seem more receptive to anti-apartheid discourse than before. The motive for translating this work was not for me due to the solutions it offers; but the questions it raises and attempts to answer, as well as the concepts it tries to address; such as what it means to be an activist, and the reality of activism and the movement against Zionism today and its developments. I also find that the quality of discussions and questions it raises about moral stances towards the issue, and the attempt to make them more effective in order to win over public opinion and create channels of pressure on decision-makers, are more relevant to the events of the Arab world today than ever before.
