The novel talks about the war in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023. The novel addresses the war from its human and social dimensions, and talks about the suffering experienced by the people of Gaza at all levels.
The novel dedicates a part of its narrative to the suffering of Gazan women, and the enormity of the pain they silently endure; that part that does not appear in the media, and whose news is not circulated.
It also reveals the extent of the Gazan's steadfastness in the face of the brutal killing machine and military arsenal, and his clinging to his land despite attempts of uprooting and displacement. And about the Gazan's fighting creed, his patience that surpasses the patience of mountains, and the long breath of resistance to the occupier, and the refusal to accept it no matter how great the pressures, or how long the period.
The novel writes in letters of blood, because it talks about the blood that is shed without accountability or reckoning, and chooses the pen of glory and dignity in the face of humiliation and insult, and tries to show the difference between the owner of the land and its thief, between those who plant roses and those who plant thorns, between those who allow birds to sing and those who imprison them.
The main characters of the novel are the nurse (Faraj Abu Al-Ouf) who moves between most of Gaza's hospitals treating the wounded and trying to save them and wiping away their sorrows, and (Salam) the journalist who conveys the atrocities she witnesses and accompanies (Faraj) on his long journey.
